Simple respond if ur mainly riding roads and wide gravel roads utilise hard panniers. If ur gonna be doing more than off-route or technical trails employ soft luggage, much more forgiving if u tag a branch or lay the bike down.

A HUGE function that was missed is difficult offroading with these. I had a cardboard box full of CO2 cartridges in my difficult top box when offroading. I also had a spray canteen for cleaning the visor/mirrors and a cheap tool bag. Offroading with these things was like putting them in a tumble dryer. Everything later on a i 60 minutes session was shattered; paper-thin was shredded and moisture due to the spray bottle height breaking off and the inexpensive tool purse zipper carve up open. I now use a tough tool purse and expect anything in that box to knock around hard. "Compartmentalizing" only works if you lot lock everything downwardly. A soft bag tin be compartmentalized if y'all accept everything in it'due south own smaller case. Or, you could simply stick to the route and play it safe.....

I'd be super wary adding hard panniers and a hard top box. The weight from the hardware in improver to the cases is not nominal.

I'm curious how the weight of the hard paniers outcome bike maintenance over time. I have hard paniers that came with my klr650 and they're a little heavy seeming. I might invest in soft to save my bikes longevity and perhaps some gas. I don't know

hard panniers for me every fourth dimension. You lot can terminate off at a park, eating house, museum or whatever and spend the afternoon looking around without worrying nearly your gear. I guess information technology depends on what yous're afterwards in a long bike ride

Great advice and based on this video I bought the GIVI outback trekker for difficult cases as they are just cool and quick to remove and the rack comes off in seconds with a tool. This rack also will work with the Mosko 37 liter soft bags which I'm going to gild for the off-route trips. Thanks!
